FAQs

Q?

Do you have an introductory first class for new customers?

A.

Yes we do! Our Introductory First class is discounted at the rate of $17. When booking your Introductory First class, start an online account with your credit card information to hold your spot in the class. When checking out add the promo code to get the discounted rate of $17.

Q?

If this is my first time at Defy Gravity, is there any paperwork I need to complete before I can take class?

A.

Yes. We recommend that you arrive 15 minutes before your first class to sign the waiver and to take care of your account. Also, if it’s your first time cycling with us, it is beneficial to get a quick introduction to the bike, its’ console and your personal settings for a successful ride.

Q?

How do I sign up for class?

A.

Online booking is the easiest, fastest and most efficient way to reserve a class. Visit the Schedule page on our website and add desired classes to your cart. If you forget your password or have any inquiries, call or email us for a prompt response. If you need to renew your Series, please do so online or at the front desk before you take your class as you will be charged full price if your Series has expired. You can keep track of your series under the tab “Series & Membership”.

Q?

What is your cancellation policy?

A.

To free up your class spot with adequate time, we have a 12-hour cancellation notice requirement. For our unlimited monthly members, there is a $15 charge for any late cancellations and no-shows. If you would like to reschedule a class for the same day, you must cancel the original class at least one-hour prior, or you will be charged a late fee in addition to the new class fee.

Q?

If I am late to class how long will you hold my spot?

A.

Because some classes last only 30 minutes and fill quickly, we can only hold your spot for 5 minutes. However, if you call before class starts to let us know you will be late, we will be happy to hold your spot for you!

Q?

Is there anything I need to bring to class?

A.

No. All of our classes are conducted on our studio equipment and don’t require any personal tools. We also have water available for purchase for $1 and complimentary towels.

Q?

It’s my first time cycling. What should I expect?

A.

Our philosophy on cycling is that it should be a great workout and an enjoyable experience for ALL levels. Our cycling culture is fun, focused and welcoming. We push our clients, but equip them to really tailor their workout to their level and specific goals. Our AC Schwinn bikes have consoles that track your calories burned, rotations per minute (RPM) and Watts (which indicate how hard you are working), which help you to track the intensity of your ride as well as your ongoing progress. Our small class settings allow for detailed, virtually private instruction. Whether it’s your 1st or 100th ride, we have worked to create a cycling environment in which everyone will feel at home and get a high intensity workout.

Q?

Why are there resistance bands on the ceiling of the cycle room?

A.

We are Orange County’s original total body workout for indoor cycling. The resistance bands are used to add core and muscle work in our Cycle w/Bands class. The first 40 minutes of the class focus solely on your ride, maximizing your caloric burn. The bands come in the final 5 minutes to work your muscles without impact to your joints. In addition, it’s a great way to bring your heart rate down with ease and cool down after a hard ride.

Q?

Do I need cycling shoes?

A.

No. We have triple link pedals, which accommodate SPD, LOOK and regular sneakers. Bring them if you have them, don’t sweat it if you don’t!

Q?

Do you need a private session before taking a Pilates class?

A.

Private sessions are not required, but if you have any physical restrictions (especially those of a serious nature, such as acute herniation’s), we encourage you to call us in advance to discuss it.

Q?

Do I need socks in Pilates classes?

A.

We do not require socks in class. If you do prefer to wear socks when doing pilates, we encourage you to wear socks with grip on the soles as we have wood flooring.

Q?

If I am pregnant can I still workout?

A.

Yes! Many of our female clients have worked out/are working out with us during their pregnancy. We recommend that you first get clearance and guidelines from your doctor and share those with us as soon as possible. We will then ensure that modifications are made in class to accommodate your needs. We also highly recommend that you wear a heart rate monitor while cycling.

Q?

How many calories will I burn in a Split or Cycle class?

A.

It is really dependent on how hard you work. We have seen clients burn up to 800 calories in a 45minute class! Our job is to provide the inspiration, you will provide the perspiration and see the results!

Q?

Do you have showers?

A.

We do not have showers, but we do have very clean (and, may we add, beautiful!) bathrooms that will give you the space to get you fresh and primped for your workday.

Q?

Where do I park?

A.

We have a joint parking lot with designated spaces for Defy Gravity and designated spaces for B.Candy. At any time, you may park in the Defy Gravity parking spaces. If your class is before 10:00 AM, you may use any spot in the lot.

Q?

Does Defy Gravity have a Referral Program?

A.

Yes! When a new member identifies you as a referral when purchasing a series, we automatically add a free class to your account.
